Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev secured his first trophy for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the competition title decider.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has had a torrid year, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the US Open.

Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in especial - led to him exiting of the top ten and eventually splitting with former coach Cervara.

Presently working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought three-set triumph over opponent Moutet.

It is his maiden championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt from spring of the previous year.

Success also means he has achieved twenty-one championships at 21 different events.

"It's the first time I'm at a event with my two daughters together, so to secure a championship is really nice," commented tennis professional Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, comprising in the German tournament in the past months.

His counter-punching play style and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had led observers to doubt if his ability to play at the elite level was concluded.

But the player has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and play positively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the first set against the difficult Moutet, securing 4 of the final five points to gain the advantage.

The competitors exchanged service breaks in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden professional championship, gained dominance to create a final set.

He rescued four early opportunities in a close third set before the Russian broke to fifteen to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev clinched victory with a point at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
